John Gibson Parkhurst


John Gibson Parkhurst was an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War and later was as diplomat. He was born the youngest of six children of Stephen and Sally Parkhurst in Oneida Castle, New York. One of his older siblings died before he was born.
Parkhurst served as Colonel of the 9th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment and became Provost Marshal General for the Department of the Cumberland; being Brevet
