John Glossop


John Collings Taswell Glossop, was a British Royal Navy officer best known for captaining the Australian cruiser during the Battle of Cocos in which the German cruiser was sunk.

Naval career

Glossop joined the Royal Navy. By then a Lieutenant, he was on 21 May 1902 posted to the screw gunboat HMS Lizard, serving at the Australia Station.
He was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath in the 1915 New Year Honours.
