John Patterson Jones
John Patterson Jones was an American politician from New York.Life
Jones was born in Goshen, Litchfield County, Connecticut. His family moved to New Lebanon, New York when John was still a child.
In 1804, Jones built the first house in what later became the Village of Monticello. He was Postmaster of Monticello for nearly 40 years.
He married Phoebe Ecker, and they had five children. He was County Clerk of Sullivan County from 1809 to 1810, 1811 to 1813 and from 1815 to 1825.
He was a member of the New York State Senate from 1835 to 1838, sitting in the 58th, 59th, 60th and 61st New York State Legislatures.
After the death of his first wife, he married Charlotte Elizabeth Andrews. He was a presidential elector in 1856, voting for John C. Frémont and William L. Dayton.
He was buried at the St. John Street Cemetery in Monticello.
