John Shy John Willard Shy is a military historian and professor emeritus at the University of Michigan . Shy is part of a group of military historians who examined the interplay of the military , politics, and society in the colonial and revolutionary periods of American history .Education Shy attended the United States Military Academy , graduating in the class of 1952. He received his master's degree from University of Vermont in 1957.
