Julius Reinhold Friedlander


Julius Reinhold Friedlander was an American soldier, author and educator. He was the first superintendent of the Pennsylvania Institution for the Instruction of the Blind in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Biography

Friedlander was born in 1803. As an adult, he fought for Greece in the Greek War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire.
In 1832 Friedlander became the superintendent of the Pennsylvania Institution. In 1838, he and Samuel Gridley Howe published braille versions of the Book of Ruth and the Book of Proverbs,.
