KRZY (AM)

KRZY is a radio station licensed to Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States, the station serves the Albuquerque area. The station is owned by Entravision Communications. KRZY airs norteño and rancheramusic.

History

KRZY was the area's dominant country station throughout the 1970s.
This station has had numerous Spanish-language formats since 1996. A Regional Mexican format branded as La Tricolor aired on 1450 from 1996-2002 and then moved to the FM band at sister station KRZY-FM 105.9 but the format was dropped in 2004 for the "Super Estrella" Latin pop format. Tricolor returned to 1450 in November 2008 and lasted until about December 2011.
KRZY was also the original home for KNML "The Sports Animal" when it was launched in 1994. In October 1996 it moved to 1050 AM and picked up the KNML callsign after KRZY 1450 was sold to Spanish-language broadcaster Excl Communications. KRZY had also aired a country music format for many years prior to the switch to sports talk.
In September 2019, with the looming shutdown of the ESPN Deportes Radio network, all Entravision-owned affiliates flipped to Jose—a format featuring norteño and ranchera music.
