Kalapana of Hawaiʻi


King Kalapa of Hawaii was a High Chief who lived in ancient Hawaii. He is mentioned in old chants and legends.

Names

Kalapa is also known as Kalapanakuʻioʻiomoa, Kalapana and Kalapaua. Kalapanakuʻioʻiomoa is his longest name that includes the nickname. He is commonly known as either Kalapa or Kalapana.

Family

Kalapa was possibly a son of Prince Kanaloa and his sister Makoʻani, who are the children of Hualani of Molokai and King Kanipahu. Kalapa married Malamaʻihanaʻae, who is also called Makeʻamalamaʻihanai. Their son was King Kahaimoelea.

Reign

According to the legends, Kalapa was a successor of the cruel king Kamaiole.
