Kalumbi Shangula


Kalumbi Shangula is a Namibian doctor and politician from the SWAPO Party who, since 19 December 2018, has been serving as Minister of Health and Social Services after replacing Dr Bernard Haufiku following his appointment by president Hage Geingob.
As the health minister, Shangula led Namibia's COVID-19 response, ordering a travel ban and partial lockdown in March 2020.
Shangula was most recently Vice Chairperson of the University of Namibia Medical School. He was previously Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of the Environment and Tourism. By 2017, Shangula was managing director of SWAPO's own group Kalahari Holdings.

Personal life

Shangula was married to the Namibian pathologist Elizabeth Hinananye Shangula from July 28, 1981, until her death in 2008.
