Kholahati Cantonment


Bir Uttam Shaheed Mahbub Cantonment is a Bangladeshi military cantonment in Parbatipur, Dinajpur District, Bangladesh.
It was named after the great martyr of liberation war, Bir Uttam Shaheed Captain Mahbububur Rahman, who was a proud of the District.
He was born in 1944 in a dignified Muslim family of Polashbari village under Nawbabgonj thana of Dinajpur district. His father was Tasir Uddin and mother was Jarina Khatun. He was the third son of his parents’ six children. Captain Mahbub spent his boyhood at Kalitola of Dinajpur town. He completed his matriculation in 1962 from Dinajpur Zilla School, H.S.C in 1964 from Dinajpur College and then got admission in Dhaka Dental College.
He joined Pakistan Army in August 1966. On 20 April 1969 he was commission with 40th PMA Long Course and joined 24 Frontier Force Regiment. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1971.He joined the War of Liberation in 1971 with 1 East Bengal and fought gallantly. On 26 November 1971, while Captain Mahabub was engaged in a frontal fight with Pakistani occupation force near Jokiganj, Sylhet, he was suddenly hit by a shell. Later he succumbed to death. He was buried at Dighirpar village in Jokiganj. To show respect to his supreme sacrifice that village was named as “ MAHBUB NAGAR”. For the heroic sacrifice of Captain Mahabub, Bangladesh Government awarded him with the gallantry award “BIR UTTAM” posthumously. On 11 May 1994,this cantonment was inaugurated at Kholahati under Parbatipur thana of Dinajpur district and named, in his honor, as “Bir Uttam Shaheed Mahbub Senanibash”, in brief, BUSMS.
