Kinder Mountain Rescue Team
The Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is one of seven Mountain Rescue Teams that provide a purely voluntary blue-light emergency service in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, England. The team is a member of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation. There are generally around 40 to 50 active volunteers in KMRT at any given time, all providing their time and skills at no charge.
The Peak District National Park is the world's second most visited national park, bounded by Manchester to the north, Sheffield to the east, Derby and Stoke-on-Trent to the south and the Cheshire Plain to the west.
The Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is based in Hayfield and primarily provides a Search and Rescue service for the area around Kinder Scout and outwards in a corridor towards the town of Stockport to the northwest, though they assist teams in other areas and operate outside their region when needed.
The team respond to call-out requests from/via Derbyshire Police, though call-outs can originate from many sources: both other emergency services, and members of the public. Mountain Rescue Teams in the Peak District are also called upon to assist with urban searches/rescue missions, supplementing other emergency services. They are able to call upon helicopter air support from the HM Coastguard helicopters, Police and Air Ambulance.
