Kyle Palmieri


Kyle Charles Palmieri is an American professional ice hockey right winger and alternate captain for the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League. He was drafted in the first round, 26th overall, by Anaheim in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career

Amateur

Palmieri was born in Smithtown, New York, but grew up in Montvale, New Jersey. As a youth, he played in the 2004 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the New Jersey Devils minor ice hockey team. He attended St. Peter's Preparatory School for two years, helping them to the New Jersey state final, before joining the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Palmieri played college hockey for the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish for one season. In his lone season at Notre Dame, Palmieri scored nine goals, including five power play goals, and had eight assists.

Professional

In the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Palmieri was taken 26th overall by the Anaheim Ducks. During the 2010–11 season, on November 3, 2010, the Anaheim Ducks recalled Palmieri from the American Hockey League 's Syracuse Crunch to play in his NHL debut at a home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Palmieri would go in to score his first NHL goal in that game against the Lightning's Dan Ellis.
Palmieri, who began his second professional season by scoring six points in his first two games of the 2011–12 season, including a hat-trick, to lead the Syracuse Crunch to victories, was named the AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 16, 2011.
On June 26, 2015, Palmieri was traded by the Ducks to his hometown club, the New Jersey Devils, in exchange for second and third-round draft picks in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. On July 7, 2016, Palmieri signed a five-year contract to remain with the Devils. On January 19, 2019, Palmieri was named to his first All Star Game, replacing his teammate Taylor Hall due to the latter suffering an injury.
