Labana

Labana is a social and ethnic group in India. Its members were traditionally transporters, carriers and merchants; they are now mostly agriculturists.

Culture

The Labana were historically a part of the nomadic Banjara community of merchants and transporters. Whilst many Banjara groups would deal in any goods that might make a profit, the Labanas specialised in the transport of salt.
Labanki, which once was the dialect of Labanas, is an extinct Indo-Aryan language. It was a mixture of Marwari, Saraiki, Gujarati and Marathi.
