Lincoln College Preparatory Academy Lincoln College Preparatory Academy is a three-year middle school and four-year college preparatory magnet school in the Kansas City, Missouri School District . The school is highly competitive as students are sometimes required to take entrance exams to get in. The high school offers International Baccalaureate programs. Lincoln was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the "Top 100 High Schools" in the United States in 2012 and 2015. In 2008 and 2014, the school received the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education , the highest award an American school can receive. In 2015, the Academy was named the best public school in the State of Missouri .History Lincoln Elementary was founded in Kansas City, MO in 1867. In 1890 under the leadership of Principal Gabriel N. Grisham Lincoln became a high school. Beginning in 1908, the high school was located at 19th and Tracy Avenue, which is modernly known as 1300 East 19th street. The school moved into an expanded facility at 2111 Woodland Avenue in 1936 under the leadership of Principal Hugh O. Cook. Lincoln High School remained an all-black school through most of segregation. In 1978, the student body was integrated and the institution obtained a magnet school designation operating under the name Lincoln Academy for Accelerated Study. The name changed to Lincoln College Preparatory Academy in 1986.Academics Lincoln College Preparatory Academy is an award-winning middle and high school. More than 90% of its graduates enroll in college. The 2014 graduating class of 151 students received $15.6 million in scholarships, grants and financial aid . High achievement has been consistent, as the 115 graduates in 2002 received scholarships and financial aid in excess of $3 million. Under the coaching direction of Sohail Jouya, Ellen Baker and Monica Medeiros qualified to the National Association of Urban Debate Leagues National Championship , the National Speech and Debate Association National Championship , and the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament . Drama Club FIRST LEGO League FIRST Robotics: The Tigerbytes are FRC Team 1775. In 2014, the team competed in the Kansas City Regional and the Oklahoma City Regional. They advanced to compete at the 2014 FRC World Championship held in St. Louis with 400 teams from around the world . Jazz Band JROTC Filiberto Camarillo was ranked c/Captain and was in charge of Charlie Company of the Blue Tiger Battalion between the academic year of 2017–2018. He was awarded the 'Senior Army Instructor Award' for outstanding leadership and mentorship of junior cadets in the 2017-2018 JROTC Tiger Battalion. This award is only given during the Senior year of High school and only given to one member of the JROTC family. He also obtain the 'Staff Excellence Leadership Award' for outstanding work as a staff member. Key Club Newspaper Sports Broadcasting Student Council Wind Ensemble: In March 2015, the Wind Ensemble traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete in Festival Disney, an annual musical performance festival.
