Louisiana State Bar Association

The Louisiana State Bar Association is the integrated bar association of the U.S. state of Louisiana. The 77th and current President of the Louisiana State Bar Association is Dona Kay Renegar.

History

Several organizations are forerunners to the Louisiana State Bar Association:
In 1929, the Louisiana State Bar Association was founded as a voluntary organization; its first president was Cecil C. Byrd. In March 1941 LSBA was converted to a mandatory bar under the rule-making power of the Supreme Court of Louisiana.
In 1957 the Articles of Incorporation were amended to create the House of Delegates as LSBA's policy-making body.
In 1990, LSBA Disciplinary Board and the Office of Disciplinary Counsel were created to be responsible for attorney discipline.

Structure

Under the LSBA bylaws, there are annual elections for President and other officers, Board of Governors and House of Delegates.
LSBA publishes the bimonthly Louisiana Bar Journal, magazine containing substantive law articles and Bar Briefs, featuring Association news.
