Luke Sela


Luke Sela was a journalist and newspaper editor from Papua New Guinea. He served as editor of the Papua New Guinea Post-Courier newspaper, one of PNG's largest publications and was a champion of the free press in the country.
Sela worked as in the Papua information services in the 1960s and 1970s. He joined the staff of the Post-Courier in 1976 and was named editor in 1978. Sela went on to serve as editor for the next 24 years. He retired from the paper in 2000. However, he continued to work with the paper after his retirement. Sela was preparing to help coordinate the Post-Courier's coverage of the upcoming 2007 elections in PNG's island regions when he died.
Sela, 64, died on June 6, 2007 after being admitted to Lorengau General Hospital in his home province of Manus. He had been suffering from a long illness for several months.
Sela was married to wife, Nia. The couple had two children, Annette and Robert.
