M Saheen Iqbal


Vice Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal, NBP, NGP, ndc, psc is a three-star admiral in Bangladesh Navy who is currently serving as the 15th Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh Navy.Previously he held the posts of Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Operations & Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Personnel in Naval Headquarters.

Early life and education

In his long career, Shaheen Iqbal has received various important trainings and military strategic education at home and abroad. He was awarded various honors including receiving the highest praise from the Chief of Naval Staff for achieving higher grading and signature of achievement in each training. He successfully completed various important trainings at home and abroad including Naval Staff Course from USA, Maritime Component Commander Flag Officer Course, International Surface Warfare Course, Anti Submarine Warfare Course from India and NDC Course from Mirpur National Defense College.

Naval career

Iqbal has served in different capacities at different Navy. He had served in both command and staff capacities in different ships, establishments and formation headquarters.He has commanded all classes of ships
and important bases, including naval frigates. In addition, he is the Chief of Naval Headquarters, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff, Director Naval Operations, Director Naval Intelligence, Regional Commander of Chittagong Naval Area, Regional Commander of Khulna Naval Area, Director of National Security Intelligence.

Contribution

Bhasan Char project for Rohingyas

Iqbal played a key role in the implementation of the Bhasan Char project for the resettlement of the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens in 2017 under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He played a special role in the planning, supervision and implementation of the project with the Prime Minister's Office and the concerned ministries. In just 10 months of launching the project as directed by the Prime Minister, he earned the admiration of all quarters by making a remote island livable for one lakh Rohingyas.

Maritime Boundary Standoff

In his working life, M Shaheen Iqbal made special contribution in various important national affairs. During his tenure as Regional Commander of the Khulna Naval Area in 2013, he worked with an international team of judges and analysts to determine the maritime boundaries between Bangladesh and India and ensure their safety.
