Mahendra Singh Tanwar


Mahendra Singh Tanwar was born in Biharipur, Neem Ka Thana, Sikar Dist. He is a recipient of India's highest Gallantry award during peacetime, the Ashok Chakra. He served in the Indian army with the Rajputana Rifles regiment with the rank of captain.

Family history

Mahendra was the son of Capt. Ramchandra Singh Tanwar. Ramchandra served in the British Indian Army and had fought in the Anglo-Persian War. His eldest son was Colonel Magh Singh who died in Jaipur on 17 May 2012. Mahendra was younger than Magh Singh, both having served in the 6th Raj Riff. Magh Singh served since Pre-Independence India to 1975 having witnessed the Raj, he served for the Raj in the Punjab Regiment of the British Indian Army. After partition of India he was given the 6th Raj Riff. He married Smt. Uglesh Kumari and had three sons: Brigadier Vijay Singh, Capt. Ajay Singh and Abhay Singh.
