Maidenwell, Queensland


Maidenwell is a rural town and a locality in the South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia.

History

Pioneer settler John King dug the first well in the district, hence the name Maidenwell.
Maidenwell Post Office opened in 1906 and closed in 1978.
The Maidenwell Community Library opened in 2000.
At the 2011 Australian Census the town recorded a population of 458.

Heritage listings

Maidenwell has a number of heritage-listed sites, including:
is located about 2 kilometres east of the town. There is a deep cold pool at the base of the falls surrounded by granite cliffs. It is a popular tourist spot for picnicking, swimming, birdwatching and photography.

Facilities

The Maidenwell branch of the Queensland Country Women's Association meets at the CWA Hall in Pool Street. The South Burnett Regional Council operates a library at the CWA Hall.
