Malan Breton


Malan Breton is a Taiwanese-born, fashion designer, film, and music video director, columnist, costume designer,Pop music performer, television and film producer, actor, and Goodwill Ambassador to Taiwan. In 2019 Malan Breton was named UK “Ambassador of the Arts” for his work in fashion by Zac Goldsmith PC, UK Parliament and the Parliamentary Society.
He launched his namesake fashion label "Malan Breton" in 2005, Malan Breton Homme in 2010, and Fantôme Malan Breton in 2012.
The labels are associated with menswear, womenswear, accessories, underwear, fragrance, cosmetics, and bridal.
On March 27, 2020, Malan Breton released his first music single, a cover of "Somethin' Stupid", featuring Japanese pop band Emergency Tiara. The song debuted on the iTunes French pop chart at number 10. An article in American Songwriter cited "Breton brings a new sound to pop, with his distinct, warm vocals, that carry the perfect amount of debonair quality."

Early life

Breton was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He began designing fashion at the age of eleven but grew up, as a performer, in the entertainment industry. He never went to design school and is self-taught as a designer.

In 1996, as a model, Breton moved to New York after a request by Versus and KCD to cast for the New York fashion week Spring 1997 Collection shows at 7th on Sixth. Music

Design

Breton got his start in fashion design as a stylist. Some of his clients included Kylie Minogue, Celine Dion, and Linda Evangelista. His work as a stylist introduced him to the fashion industry. His mentors in fashion include Arnold Scaasi, also noted is his training at British heritage brand Turnbull & Asser.
In 2005, Breton was one of twelve new designers to watch for on the New York runway in WWD Women's Wear Dailies "Cheat Sheet".
In 2007 he opened the first Malan Breton flagship store in NYC's East Village. The collection expanded in 2008 to include Malan Breton Accessories. and in 2010 expanded to include a full line of menswear - Malan Breton Homme In 2012 Malan Breton expanded to include Fantôme Malan Breton.
In 2014 Malan Breton expanded into outerwear with his first license That same year, he was ranked at number twenty-six on IMDb's list of the one hundred most popular Tapei, Taiwan-born people in entertainment, for his work in fashion, costume, and television.

Fashion columnist

In 2010 Breton designed costumes for NBC's prime-time game show Minute to Win It. The show starred Guy Fieri which featured "Game Agents" Petra Lauren Gilmore and Ling Ai-Li Wang each week wearing Malan Breton designs. In 2011 his costume designs, for the television game show Minute to Win It, were part of a packaging deal with NBC/ Universal, Nintendo Wii systems, Xbox 360, and ZOO for the video game of the same name.

Television

Breton was featured on an episode of E! Television Fashion Emergency when he performed in the 1998 revival of Cabaret on Broadway.
From 1999 to 2005 he was the promo voice of ESPN Extreme Sports.
Breton in 2003 was the promo voice for ABC Sports.
Malan Breton first received public notice when he came in 14th in the third season of Project Runway.
Breton was the subject/host/co-producer of The Malan Show featured on BravoTV.com as a weekly web series. It followed the process of making it in America as an independent designer.
In 2008 Breton, and the collection was featured on an episode of Australia's Next Top Model . In an episode called "New York, New York" The final 3 were judged in a retrospective catwalk of Breton's fashions, their finale fashion show before the top two were chosen. They featured on an episode of MTV News. In an episode called "'Project Runway' Alumni Stand Out At New York Fashion Week" the episode featured the Spring Summer 2009 collection shown at Bryant Park during Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week.
In 2009 he appeared on MTV Detox. In an episode called "On 'MTV Detox': Jim Cantiello With No Pants!"
In 2010 Malan Breton, and Care and Share India rang the NASDAQ closing bell shown on NASDAQ TV in Times Square.
In 2011 Malan Breton Homme, and Breton were featured on an episode of MTV News. In an episode called "It's A 'Party And Rock And Roll' Lifestyle For Jim". On the episode the viewers chose the Malan Breton suit newscaster Jim Cantiello would wear to the VMA's

In 2016 Breton, and the collection were featured on an episode of "The Real Housewives of New York City" featured on Bravo. In an episode called "Airing Your Dirty Laundry"
In 2017 Breton appeared on an episode of Good Day New York featured on FOX Television Stations. On the episode he gave fashion commentary about the annual Met Gala.
In 2018 Breton, and the collection were featured on an episode of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" featured on Bravo. In an episode called "Thank you, Thuck you".
