Malani Bulathsinhala


Malani Bulathsinhala was a Sri Lankan singer. She began her musical career at age 10, as a child artist with the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. San̆davaṭa Rantharu was the first of her contributions to Malini songs. She also served as Assistant Director of Education in the western Sri Lankan province of Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte.

Personal life

She was the oldest child of Wilson and P. K. Bulathsinghala on December 12, 1949 in Boralesgamuwa. She had one brother and one sister. She married musician H. M. Jayawardena on 30 December 1978, and was the mother of Kasun Kalhara. Her college education was in Boralesgamuwa and at Papiliyana Beacon School for Girls. She graduated from State song and Music College of Fine Arts with a diploma in Music from Lucknow Bhatkhande Sarasaviyenda.

Death

She was in the United States to perform a concert when she was found dead in the bathroom at the residence of the Sri Lanka consul Tissa Wijeratne. It is believed that her death was caused by anaphylaxis brought on by an allergic reaction to hair dye.
