Mamoru Shō


Mamoru Shō is the current head of the Shō family, the former Ryūkyūan royal family. He is the great-great-grandson of Shō Tai, the last king of the Ryūkyū Kingdom, and is the king's most senior direct descendant. Unlike other heads of the Shō family since the abolition of the Ryūkyū Kingdom, he resides in both Tokyo and Naha.

Life

Mamoru Shō was born in Tokyo on 18 August 1950, the eldest son of Hiroshi Shō. He became the Shō Family Head upon the death of his father on 30 August 1996. Unlike his most recent ancestors, he spends time in both Tokyo and Naha.

Family

Shō has two daughters and a son named Takeshi, who is the heir apparent to the Shō family.
