Mamunul Haque


Mamunul Haque is a Bangladeshi Islamic scholar, politician, writer, editor and public speaker. He is Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and President of Bangladesh Khelafat Youth Majlish. He was arrested by the Bangladesh government in 2013 for leading the Hefazat movement. He gained popularity by speaking against atheists and secularists and for being an anti-islamist.

Biography

Mamunul Haque was born on November 1973 in Azimpur, Lalbagh, Dhaka. His father is Allama Azizul Haque. In 1975, at the age of 12, he had memorized the Quran at the Lalbagh Chantara Jame Masjid Madrasa. In 1966, he was admitted to Jamia Rahmania Arabia Dhaka. In 1993, he won first position in Befaq examination from Sharhe Bekaya Jamaat, third position in Meshkat Jamaat in 1995 and first position in Masters in 1996. At the same time he completed Honors and Masters in Economics at the Asian University of Bangladesh.
He taught at Sirajganj Jamia Nizamia Bethua Madrasa for five years and at Mirpur Jamiul Uloom for two years. He has taught Sahih al-Bukhari at Jamia Rahmania Arabia Dhaka since 2000. In 2015, he founded the Mahadut Tarbiatul Islamia, a higher Islamic education, research and training institution. He was a part-time professor at the Asian University of Bangladesh. He delivers Friday sermons at the Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque, Dhaka.

Publications

He has published ten books and edited four. Since 2001, he has been editor of the magazine Montly Rahmani Paygame. He also writes articles on contemporary issues in national and daily newspapers.
