Margaret Rioch


Margaret Jeffrey Rioch was an American psychotherapist. In the 1960s, she led a National Institute of Mental Health program to train women to become paraprofessional mental health counselors. She was professor of psychology at American University, and founder and director of the A.K. Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems, which studies group dynamics.
Rioch was born in Paterson, New Jersey, and graduated from Wellesley College. She then attended Bryn Mawr College where she received a master's degree and doctorate in philology.
