Mark Young (basketball)


Mark Young is an American former basketball player. He was named New England's Athlete of the Year while averaging 30.9 points and 18 rebounds per game during his senior year at Brookline High School. Young was recruited to play for the Fairfield Stags by head coach Fred Barakat, and became the team's starting center for his four seasons there. He led the Stags in scoring and rebounding during his senior season. Young holds Fairfield records in free throws made and attempted, while he ranks seventh in total points and ninth in rebounds.
Young was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers as the 41st overall pick of the 1979 NBA draft but never played in the National Basketball Association. He played professionally in Europe during the 1979–80 season. Young was inducted as a member of the Fairfield Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985 and named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Honor Roll in 2017.
