Marx Levy Mordechai


Rabbi Marx Levy Mordechai was a 18th-century German-Jewish Rabbi and progenitor of the Marx family.

Biography

Born in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany around 1743. His father Rabbi Samuel ben Mordechai HaLevi was a minor rabbi in Germany and the brother of Rabbi Aaron ben Mordechai HaLevi. In his early years, Rabbi Marx served as the Av Bet Din of Trier, where he became renowned for his talmudic excellence. He married Eva Lwow, and the couple had nine children, including Heinrich Marx, the father of Karl Marx.
