Mathilakam


Mathilakam is a village in Thrissur District in Kerala, India.
In the Sangam Period, Trikkannamathilakam was a famous centre of Jain religion and learning. In Matilakam was a famous Jain temple to which a number of other temples were subordinate but it later became a Hindu temple. Ilango Adikal, the author of the Tamil epic, Silappadikaram, was a Jain who lived at Trikana Mathilakam.

Local Government

Mathilakam Grama Panchayath was formed in the year 1964, January 01. M.K Krishnan was the first President. The Panchayath is now being ruled by CPIM led elected members. Mathilakam is a part of Kaipamangalam Assembly constituency and Chalakudy Lokasabha Constituency.
It lays near Irinjalakuda, NH 47 highway passes through Mathilakam. West side is Arabian sea.
