McLaren Ridge
McLaren Ridge is a rock ridge at the head of Battye Glacier, about west of Radok Lake in the Aramis Range of the Prince Charles Mountains, Antarctica. It was plotted from Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions air photos taken in 1956 and 1960, and was named by the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia for W.A. McLaren, a glaciologist at Wilkes Station in 1965.
Toponymy
McLaren Ridge is named for William Allen McLaren, a Canadian hydrographer currently retired and living in southern British Columbia. McLaren graduated in 1960 from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree. In 1964 and 1965 he was a glaciologist with the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions based in Wilkes Station in Antarctica. As a result of his Antarctic researches, McLaren received a Master of Science degree from the University of Melbourne in 1968.
