Medwin Hughes


Medwin Hughes DL FRSA is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and of the University of Wales. He was previously principal of Trinity University College, Carmarthen and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales, Lampeter.
Hughes studied at Aberystwyth University and Jesus College, Oxford. He earned his doctorate in the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages and Literature in 1987, for his thesis entitled "Studies in Calvinistic Methodist Welsh Literature, 1790-1825". This work remains unpublished. However, he subsequently published a few works that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the Welsh language in its social and political contexts.
In October 2011, Hughes became Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales amid scandal regarding the university's overseas validation process.
