Ikoku was born in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, south-south Nigeria to a headmaster in St. Paul’s Primary School Owerri named Reuben Ikoku and a petty trader Rhoda Ikoku He had his primary education in 6 different south eastern schools, starting off at the same school his father was head of at St. Paul’s Primary School Owerri, from which he moved to Township School Owerri, and then to Ihite Ogada Primary School, Logara Mbaise Primary School and Amakohia Ubi Primary School in 1979. He then continued to the secondary level at Holy Ghost College Owerri and later, Boys High School Nkwerre in 1984, Also within the south east region of Nigeria. He furthered his education into the university where he graduated with a B.SC in Sociology from the University of Lagos in the south west region of Nigeria in 2003, and also studied public administration at the chartered institute of local government and public administration of Nigeria.
Professional life
Ikoku is an associate member of the chartered institute of local government and public administration of Nigeria. In 1992, he started his first business as an electrical and electronics distributor and manufacturer with the brand name Obiron, which included the Obiron electric iron. He then ventured into food in 1994 with a brand of bread called Obinaocha, in the southeast region of Nigeria. Currently, he runs a hospitality, electrical and electronics, property, entertainment, oil and gas business, as well as many others. He is the Chairman and CEO of NV Broadcasting Company, NV Night Club and Lounge, Owerri, Mimi Place Restaurants Owerri, and All Seasons Hotel Owerri. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Co Founder of Yandi Nigeria alongside Justice Izuchukwu Eneje and Scott Chinedu Eneje. He started Obinaocha Industries Limited in 1991 and handed over management in 2000. He also founded Obiron Investment in 1996, Whyte Petroleum in 1995 and All Seasons Hotel in 2003. In 2007, he launched a hospitality service company called Havana Hospitality and was made the Chairman of the Board of tourism from 2008 to 2011. He joined the governing council of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, in Ogun state. He is a celebrity businessman in Owerri, IMO state and a political figure in IMO state, a key figure in Nollywood and a sponsor in the entertainment industry and founder of Myke Records.
Personal life
He married in 1991 and has 5 children. He is a member of the rotary club of Nigeria. He ventured into politics in 2014 and returned to humanitarian activities and business services. His first son Obinna Ikoku Jr. recently graduated from Bradford university and is now part of the management team of his Yandi Ltd He is affiliated with the Nollywood industry of Nigeria and hosted his birthday in the midst of veteran stars of Nollywood including Davido and Kcee.
