Michal Marek
Michal Marek was a Polish cave diver who spent his last years in Ireland. As of May 2019, he holds the record for the deepest cave dive in Ireland at a depth of.
Amongst other speleological achievements, Marek was involved in the discovery and exploration of Cliff Cave, Fanore, County Clare, which is the longest marine cave in Ireland. He also set a new Irish cave diving depth record in Pollatoomary, County Mayo. The existing record set by Artur Kozłowski in 2008 was, and Marek extended this to.
Marek joined the Irish Cave Rescue Organisation in 2014 and later became a core team member, bringing his own skills to the organisation.
Marek died on 12 May 2019 at the age of 36, while on an open-water dive off Malin Head, County Donegal.
