Ministry of Defense (Mongolia)


The Ministry of Defense of Mongolia is a political agency of the Government of Mongolia. The Ministry of Defense is the professional managing body of the Mongolian Armed Forces, and this body is responsible for reliably maintaining the country’s independence and its entire territorial and human security. It also coordinates the provision of strategic planning and policy guidance, and reforms of the armed forces while simultaneously building the army’s capability to engage in both peacekeeping and wartime activities. The current Minister of Defense is Nyamaagiin Enkhbold.

On 29 December 1911, Mongolia gained independence from the Manchu Empire, and established its first five ministries. One of the ministries was the Ministry of Military Affairs, which was one of the predecessors to the Ministry of Defense.
