Miss Alabama

The Miss Alabama competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the U.S. state of Alabama in the annual Miss America Competition.
Alabama has won three Miss America titles: Deidre Downs in 2005, Heather Whitestone in 1995, and Yolande Betbeze in 1951. Betbeze is also known as the contestant who refused to pose in a swimsuit, causing swimsuit sponsor Catalina Swimwear to pull out and ultimately start the Miss USA pageant.
Tiara Pennington of Helena was crowned Miss Alabama 2019 on June 8, 2019 at Wright Center on the Samford University campus in Birmingham, Alabama. She competed for the title of Miss America 2020 in December 2019.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, state and national competitions were postponed until 2021. Tiara Pennington will continue to hold the title of Miss Alabama until June 12th, 2021.
