Moat House is being renovated back to its original splendour and from Spring 2019 opens as an event function space and bar. A Summer House nearby is a Grade II listed building and a rare family of 18 black swans lived around the grounds.

History

Built in 1572 by William Comberford as a family home, it sits on the banks of the River Tame. Charles I stayed in the property in August 1619.
Having been in the possession of various families for nearly 300 years, it was opened for a local horticultural show and was later used as a private nursing home for the mentally ill. Immediately prior to its current ownership the property was a Berni Inn, and before that a Schooner Inn.
The Moat House was featured in the paranormal television series Most Haunted on 16 March 2018 and 23 March 2018.
In Summer 2018 the building came under new management who are bringing this magnificent building back to its splendor and opening it as an event function space and bar in Spring 2019.
