. It was mapped by the
United States Geological Survey
from
aerial photographs
taken by U.S. Navy
Operation Highjump
in
1947
and the U.S. Navy in 1966. It was named by the
Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names
in
1977
after
Captain Robert
G. Moore,
USCG
,
Commanding Officer
of, with operations in the
Ross Sea
,
Pine Island Bay
and
Antarctic Peninsula
areas during the 1974–75 season.
