Mute Rebellion
The Mute rebellion was a series of riots that occurred in Halland, Sweden between November 1854 and February 1855.
The riots started in Himle Hundred near Mute when a local mob attacked the official Fredrik Kjellman and his assistants, who arrived in Mute to investigate claims regarding violations of the regulations banning trade in the form of shops in the country side closer to the city than 3 miles. This was a regulation left from the time of the guilds which was deeply resented in the countryside. The riots continued for several weeks before being subdued by the military.
The result was the abolition of the old regulation and the reform law of free commerce in 1864.
