Mutomo
Mutomo is a settlement in Kenya's Kitui County, a semi-arid area. It is located in former Mutomo District of which Mutomo was its administrative centre. It has 17,000, mostly poor, inhabitants. It is located about 70 km from Kitui and 230 km from Nairobi. Mutomo can be reached by road through Machakos and through Kibwezi which is now tarmacked.
The area is one of Kenya's poorest with clean water lacking and poor infrastructure, including the roads. However, Kibwezi-Kitui road is now being improved to bitumen standard. Since children work, a significant number never go to school. Infectious diseases are a serious problem.
