Naima Kay


Lungile Khumalo, known professionally as Naima Kay, is a South African Afro-Jazz singer.

Career

She started singing and writing songs in her school choir, also performed at the jazz Festival where she began attracting attention.
She made a major impact in South Africa with the release in 2013 of Umsebenzi. The album sold very well and gained an award, South African Music Award in 2014 for Best Newcomer.
Kay, was discovered by the head of Touch Africa Records Mdu Ngcobo who gave her an Arabic name Naima Kay defining Peace and Tranquility.
She has worked with so many artists in South Africa, the list includes Robbie Malinga and Scelo Gowane to name a few
She has maintained a strong presence, with consistent radio play and live appearances at key national events and Festivals such as UGu Jazz Festival and the Durban Jazz festival.

Awards

In 2014, Naima Kay won the "Best Newcomer" award at the South African Music Awards with her first album "Umsebenzi".
