During his period as an assistant director, Nandha Periyasamy shared was a roommate of director N. Lingusamy and the pair often narrated their scripts to one another. In 2002, he was given the opportunity by producer S. S. Chakravarthy to make a police thriller film titled Mahaa with Ajith Kumar, Sneha and Kiran Rathod in the lead roles. Nandha Periyasamy managed to ensemble a renowned technical team including cinematographer Jeeva, composer Harris Jayaraj and lyricist Vairamuthu for the film. However, an accident suffered by Ajith and the subsequent failure of the producer's Red, meant that Mahaa was shelved after a month of shoot. His first film Oru Kalluriyin Kathai was a college romance starring Arya and Sonia Agarwal and opened to average reviews, with a critic noting "the story of Nandha Periyasamy is unbelievable and the narration is slow paced." The film had a lukewarm response at the box office, and the director then wanted to do a film that would strike an instant chord with the audience. With a script in hand, he wanted to rope in established artistes but nothing materialised for nearly two years and he thus decided to come up with another script where he would not have to rely on big stars. He then briefly worked on the pre-production of a film titled Ardhanari starring Karan in the lead role of a transgender, but the project was later shelved. In his second film Maathi Yosi, the director dared to touch upon sensitive issues like untouchability and casteism. Featuring a predominantly new cast and inspired by the rural milieu renaissance started by Sasikumar in Subramaniyapuram, his film opened to mixed reviews with a critic noting "starting promisingly by focusing on the casteist problem, the films goes wayward and loses its opportunity to be a uniquemovie." During the period he took up acting roles, notably appearing in Mayandi Kudumbathar alongside nine other directors. He returned in 2013 with a venture titled Azhagan Azhagi, before making the romantic comedyVanna Jigina in 2015. The sequel of a superhit movie Mayandi Kudumbathar is directed by Nandha Periyasamy, produced by Sri Vaari films, which is set to shoot on 2020. Meanwhile he emerged as the story writer of the Hindi movieRashmiRocket, which is starred by Tapsee Pannu and directed by Akarsh Khurana that is set to releasse in 2020.
