New Urban Arts


New Urban Arts is a non-profit arts organization that provides after school arts education and studio space for high school students in Providence, Rhode Island. In 2017, it was stated that students at New Urban Arts come primarily from Classical High School, Central High School, The Met School, and Providence Career and Technical Academy. The organization focuses on arts mentoring, a research-based summer arts inquiry program, and a leadership program that allows student participants to drive the direction of the organization.

History

Originally called "Project New Urban Arts," the organization was founded in October 1997 by a group of students from Brown University, the Rhode Island School of Design, Central High School, Mount Pleasant High School and Hope High School.
New Urban Arts was originally located in a loft above Grace Church in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. It then moved to 743 Westminster Street in Providence in 1998, and moved again to its current space at 705 Westminster in 2011.
