Nițchidorf


Nițchidorf is a commune in Timiș County in the Banat region of Romania.

Geography

It is located in the southwest of Romania, at from Timișoara. Nițchidorf has 1,599 inhabitants, and a total area of. The commune is composed of three villages: Blajova, Duboz and Nițchidorf.

History

It was first mentioned in 1784. The commune was named after its founder, count Kristóf Niczky. Historically, it was inhabited mostly by German-speaking Banat Swabians, most of whom abandoned Romania in the 1980s. Ioan Mașcovescu of the Social Democratic Party has been mayor since 2004.
