Nick Sloane (athlete)


Nicholas Shaun Sloane, was an English track and field athlete.
Nick Sloane was educated at St Mary's Catholic Academy Blackpool and Leeds Beckett University. In 1972 he won the freshers race at Leeds Polytechnic. He was Lancashire senior cross-country champion in 1976 and was captain of the Lancashire Cross-country team. He won the Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile road race in 1973 and again in 1975. His time in 1975 was 45 min 50 sec, a record which stands for over 40 years. This race was also won by Steve Cram in 1984 and 1987 and by Ron Hill in 1974. He won the Isle of Man 5 mile Road Race in 1978.
From 2000 to 2017 he was Managing Director of Jøtul in the UK. He died of cancer in August 2017. He had been married for 37 years and had two sons.
