North Eastham, Massachusetts


North Eastham is a census-designated place in the town of Eastham in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 1,806 at the 2010 census.
The main visitor center of the Cape Cod National Seashore is located in North Eastham.

Geography

North Eastham is located within the northwestern part of the Town of Eastham at . It is bordered to the west by Cape Cod Bay, to the north by the town of Wellfleet, to the east by U.S. Route 6 and Great Pond Road, and to the south by Great Pond, Herring Brook Road, and Samoset Road.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of. of it is land, and of it is water.

Demographics

At the 2000 census there were 1,915 people, 881 households, and 570 families in the CDP. The population density was 217.5/km². There were 2,656 housing units at an average density of 301.6/km². The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.12% White, 0.26% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.84%.
Of the 881 households 20.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.6% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 29.4% of households were one person and 15.0% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.17 and the average family size was 2.63.
The age distribution was 17.1% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 29.2% 65 or older. The median age was 49 years. For every 100 females, there were 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.9 males.
The median household income was $34,390 and the median family income was $42,794. Males had a median income of $32,143 versus $38,889 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $20,797. About 6.9% of families and 8.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 14.4% of those age 65 or over.
