Odia Ramayana


Odia Ramayana also known as Jagamohana Ramayana or Dandi Ramayanapopularly across Odisha is a work composed by the 15th-century poet Balarama Dasa. He was among one of Panchasakha'' clan of the Odia literature which literally means five friends
Odia Ramayana isn't a translation of original Sanskrit Ramayana. The poet hadn't read Sanskrit Ramayana in his lifetime, he wrote it by getting information from local priests and folklore. To that, he added many additional information and traditional varieties of Odisha in this purana such as living standards, foods, locations etc.It also contains reference to the popular Indian sweetmeat Rasgulla.Famous Odia historian Asit Mohanty submitted evidences from this book to the GI office in 2018,claiming that Rasgulla was being prepared in Odisha 500 years ago.Finally, Odisha got the GI tag for Odishara Rasagola on 29 July 2019.
