Oge Modie


Ogechukwu Olufunmilola Modie is a technocrat. She recently served in a key executive management role in the Nigerian public sector as the Chief of Staff to the former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and later Honorable Minister of State, Petroleum Resources of Nigeria Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu for the period of 2015 to 2019. Modie has developed an excellent career over 22 years which spans through Strategy Consulting, Corporate Finance, SME Ventures, Private Equity, Opinion Research, Public Policy and Administration. Modie is currently working as a Strategy Consultant in social impact projects and media for organisations and private individuals.

Early life and education

Oge Funlola Modie is an Igbo from Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, Nigeria. She was born at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. Her name shows a link to both the Western and Eastern part of Nigeria, where her paternal grandmother was Yoruba. Her parents were professionals; her father retired as the Associate Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and her mother a retired Chief Nursing Administrator at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu.
Her parents imbibed the values of hard work, integrity and humility in her and her siblings Oge Modie grew up in the civil service town of Enugu on the university campus, where she fostered her early years of primary education at University Primary School UNEC, Enugu and her secondary education at Federal Government Girls' College, Owerri, Imo State
She studied Economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State. During her undergraduate years she was active in student groups, joining the AIESEC community, campaigning and winning the Vice President post for Marketing and being paramount in fund raising for several conferences. She was also part of the group that formed the Policy Analysis and Research Group of which the grand patron was Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
She has a Masters in Business Administration obtained at the Cranfield University School of Management United Kingdom. She graduated in 2007.

Career

Modie’s career spans 22 years across the private, public and third sectors with key executive roles in areas of Corporate Finance, Private Equity, Public Opinion Research and most recently Public Policy and Administration.
Modie's corporate finance career started in 1999 with , Nigeria’s first indigenous credit rating company founded by where she worked six years as an Associate consultant building up her skills in the West African Mergers & Acquisition Market with a focus on the Nigerian and Ghanaian financial services industry and Nigeria’s corporate finance landscape.
She was part of Agusto’s teaching faculty where she taught Treasury Arithmetic and Credit analysis to Nigerian bankers.
She left in September 2003 to join the team, a portfolio management company founded by Tony Elumelu. She was Manager, Corporate Venturing and Incubation, part of a core team that managed the financial services portfolio of the Standard Trust Bank group of companies now United Bank For Africa UBA group. She was the project lead on various Mergers & Acquisitions projects across the West African region
In mid-2005, she joined where she was key in designing the Nextzon Business Incubator which warranted a grant from the World Bank MSME program.
On her return from business school, in 2008, she founded an SME management consulting Company) that has partnered with the Ford Foundation, The Nigeria SME Agency ], and to build capacity in SMEs and stakeholders in the sector.
From late  2008 to 2011, she was pulled away to help support a social impact investing initiative; Makeda Fund Managers LLC a US$50million SME private equity start-up fund focused on investing in women entrepreneurs across West Africa, and the fund was run in partnership with Small Enterprises Assistance Fund based in Washington, D.C. She was the Fund Director for the Fund. As a fund director, Modie generated interest in investing in women owned/managed SMEs across West Africa. She was responsible for fund marketing, relationship building & managing, deal sourcing and managing investor relationships
Modie in 2012 worked as the  Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of . Modie was featured in where she was referred to as "a dynamic woman with skills that show in the ways she carries out her work" and "the first woman to have headed Nigeria’s leading independent opinion polling and research organization". Under her leadership, NOIPolls grew in visibility across the West African region and the continent. . The company won various awards; the Global Excellence Quality Award for the "Global Most Innovative Consumer Research and Data Analysis Company" for the year 2014 and the for "West Africa's No.1 Opinion Polling Research Organization". In 2015, the company also won the African Quality Achievement Award for "Africa's Most Reliable Quality Opinion Research and Polling Service Provider", Nigerian Brands Organisation's "Most Innovative and Impactful Market Research Agency of the Year-Platinum Award" and "Opinion Polling Company of the Year" by the African Development Magazine.
In 2015,  Modie was appointed to the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Nigeria's National Oil Corporation,Following her initial appointment to the position of the Chief of Staff to the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Nigeria's National Oil Corporation, the GMD was also appointed as Nigeria’s Cabinet Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and named as the Chairman of the Board of the Corporation, as provided for under Section 1 of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Act of 1997, as amended on 4 July 2016. Her primary responsibility as Chief of Staff expanded to manage these three key positions of her principal. Aside from being responsible for the oversight and organization of all managerial and key stakeholder activities within these offices,  she was also given a key role as the Coordinator of  Nigeria’s Ministry of Petroleum Resources’ Programme Management Office which was responsible for the implementation and provision of leadership direction for the “” – Nigeria’s Petroleum Sector Reform programme which focused on short and medium term priorities to grow Nigeria’s Oil and Gas industry. She assumed duty as Chief of Staff in August 2015 and handed over in May 2019.

She is passionate about helping poor and vulnerable persons and participates in various community-based projects that are focused on supporting these persons in the society, empowering families, women, the physically challenged and children]
She loves to create, Modie's creativity pioneered the production and scripting of an original animation video series which were created to support public enlightenment and awareness of opinion polls when she was the Managing Director/CEO of NOIPolls Limited. She also loves the outdoors and dining.
She is the founder of Wellspring of Life Global Outreach, , and the , all charity organizations that support the vulnerable in society.
A published author and writer, she is currently working on two new books, having recently published her maiden book, "Waters For the Thirsty Soul: 52 Refreshing Ways To Deepen Your" Relationship With God”, published by the renowned . Modie has dedicated herself to writing a weekly faith inclined devotional called The WellSpring and a personal leadership newsletter aptly named, Fearlessly Authentic. She was once a Columnist in the monthly column “Becoming You” and quarterly column “The Little Things" for the NNPC publications. She is also published in Per Second News - an online news publication.
She is the Radio Host of “Waters For The Thirsty SoulTM – Radio Devotional”, aired across Nigeria in Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Maiduguri, Kano and Kaduna. The program is an inspirational and soul-lifting morning devotional that encourages life in Christ and strength building through trials. The programme reaches over 12 million listeners and has an active prayer line open to listeners.

Modie was on the board of NOIPolls, KSF Microfinance Bank, Victorious women Foundation], CedarSeed Foundation, FirstBorn Foundation, Wellspring of Life Global Outreach and Heels Of Influence Initiative.
She was also a Steering Committee Member – Sustainability in the Extractive Industries Conference 2017- 2018  and a Steering Committee Member - Nigeria Gas Flare Commercialisation  Programme.
