Al Roumi's father, Khalfan Mohammed Al Roumi, was a politician who served as Minister of Labour and Social Affairs and Minister of Information and Culture.
Al Roumi has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Sharjah and a bachelor's degree in Economics from United Arab Emirates University.Career
Al Roumi was manager of Business Research at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. She was head of Economic Policy at the Executive Office of Vice President Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
On 10 February 2016, following an unprecedented reshuffle Al Roumi was appointed Minister of Happiness of the United Arab Emirates. This newly created position is to oversee the UAE's plans to promote the happiness of its society. She is one of eight female ministers in the twenty-nine member cabinet.
She is also the Director General of the Prime Minister's Office, overseeing projects including government strategy, the national agenda and various awards and programs. She is Vice-President of the World Government Summit Organization and the first Arab member of the United Nations' Global Entrepreneurship Council.
