Olinda Salguero


Olinda Salguero Orellana is a Guatemalan activist. She is director of Fundación Esquipulas para la Integración Centroamericana, a Guatemalan non-governmental institution founded by former Guatemalan President, Vinicio Cerezo. She is very well known in the blogosphere because of her profiles in social networks, especially Facebook and Twitter, from where she promotes social initiatives among her followers, such as "Voces por Guate", "Habla Guate","Foro Regional Esquipulas", "Reforestando Centroamérica", to name a few. Besides, she is a University Professor and she recently completed the program Maestría en Integración y Desarrollo. Among her hobbies we can name reading, playing tennis, nature, photography, animals,, listening to music and watching movies.

History

Olinda was born in Guatemala City on 6 October 1984, she is the only girl among five siblings. When she was 14 years old she participated in the Christian television show called "Buen día." She contributed later to a TV network called Enlace. She was Magna Cum Laude when she obtained her degree of Licenciada en Ciencias de la Comunicación at Universidad Rafael Landívar, where she presented the dissertation called "Situación actual de las relaciones públicas en Guatemala" on September, 2008, which earned an honorary mention.
While at college, she was involved with the students' directive board at Facultad de Humanidades, among other projects that deepened her interest for social causes and politics.
She considers that all the countries in Central American and the Caribbean have better opportunities if they work together and since 2009 she is director of Fundación Esquipulas para la integración Centroamericana, founded by former Guatemalan president and lawyer Vinicio Cerezo. From there she organized already the six editions of Foro regional Esquipulas, an initiative that brings together several presidents and former presidents from Latin American who, along with other analysts, discuss problems that are common among all the countries in the region, that takes place on a yearly basis in Guatemala City. Some of the most remarkable participations have been those of Rafael Correa, President of Ecuador, in 2014 and Jose Mujica, former President of Uruguay, in 2015.
In 2011 she was selected by Prensa Libre, one of the most important newspapers in Guatemala, as "one of the ladies that build a better Country with their work."
