Onekawa


Onekawa is a suburb of the city of Napier, in the Hawke's Bay Region of the eastern North Island of New Zealand.
The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage gives a translation of "salty soil" for Onekawa.
Onekawa Central had a population of 1,320 at the 2013 New Zealand census, an increase of 72 people since the 2006 census. There were 612 males and 705 females. Figures have been rounded and may not add up to totals. 87.6% were European/Pākehā, 16.2% were Māori, 1.9% were Pacific peoples and 2.8% were Asian.
Onekawa houses a high proportion of industry trade businesses.

Marae

The local Pukemokimoki marae is a marae for the iwi of Ngāti Kahungunu and its hapū of Ngā Hau E Whā, and includes the wharenui of Omio.
