The Paika or Paiko is a Militia community found in Odisha and Bihar state of India.Etymology
The Odia word Paiko means Soldier, they derive their name from the occupation of soldier.
According to their oral traditions,they had served as military personnel in some of the erstwhile Princely states of Odisha.History
The Paikas were started an armed rebellion against the British East India Companys rule in Odisha in 1817. Who were the traditional Militia of Odisha after removal of king of Khurda in 1803.Classification
The Paikos are included under Other Backward Class List in the state of Odisha.
