exposures
along the Great
Peedee River

preserves
belemnites
and
foraminifera
fossils
dating
from the
Late Cretaceous
. The
formation
is
notable
for its
occurrence
of
Belemnitella americana
, known as the
Pee Dee
Belemnite, a long-standing
standard
in
stable carbon isotope
research
.
