Reception

The film garnered negative reviews from audiences and mostly went unseen by critics, it currently holds a 50% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 91 user reviews and 5.2/10 on IMDb based on 5 user reviews. Audiences mainly felt that the movie was too slow and boring, quoting that "Jean Rollin is really a mixed bag. For me he's at his best when he sticks to vampires and castles and artistic/strange symbolism and atmosphere. Those are what he knows, what he's about, and that's what he brings incredible magic and intrigue to. He's worst when he tries too hard to talk openly in a film about concepts such as "a dream within a dream" and having random things occur for no apparent reason. You can sort of see what he's trying to do at times but for me it just doesn't cut it."

Other

A short four-minute segment of the film appears in a fan-made music video for the song "I'm God" by Clams Casino.
